Elias Partridge (1766-1857)

Elias Partridge was born to Eleazer Partridge and Lois Rockwood, Feb 7, 1766 in Franklin, Massachusetts; died Mar 6, 1857, aged 91 years; married Dec 31, 1794, Abigail Chase of Sutton, Massachusetts, who was born Mar 21, 1770, and died Sep 22, 1838 in Paris, she was a sister of Luke Chase of Paris, and daughter of Bradford and Abigail (Sibley) Chase ^[1]History of Paris, Maine, p. 553.; they were some of the first settlers in Paris, Maine ^[2]History of Paris, Maine, p. 160.. They were both buried in the Partridge Cemetery in Paris, Maine.

Elias Partridge on 2 Apr 1793, bought of Daniel Clark of Newton, the south half of lots 19 and 20, in the 1st range. ^[3]History of Paris, Maine, p. 74. In 1798 this land was appraised at $380 for the 99 acres.

Elias served in various town positions including surveyor in 1798 ^[4]History of Paris, Maine, p. 96.

   1. Ruth Isabelle Partridge, born 12 Oct 1833 in Paris, Maine, married Sylvanus Porter Stearns, son of William and Joanna (Porter) Stearns. They settled on the Stearns homestead farm in Paris. Disputed Genealogy

George H. Partridge in his John Partridge Genealogy continues the error made in the History of Paris, Maine which confused the spouses of Abigail, Caroline, and Adeline. Abigail married Liberty Hall in 1832 in Andover, Maine. Caroline married Jonas Kendall in 1830 in Watertown, Massachusetts. and Adaline married Cornelius Morton in 1832 in Dixfield, Maine. What is published in both of those manuscripts is incorrect.

Researchers have merged this Abigail Partridge, daughter of Elias and Abigail Chase, with Abigail Harding Partridge, daughter of Phineas Partridge and Abigail Allen. Both have the same birthdate, but Abigail Harding Partridge is born in Franklin, Massachusetts while Abigail Partridge was born in Paris, Maine.
