Jesse Partridge (1748-1838)

Jesse Partridge was born to Zachariah Partridge and Esther Turner in Walpole, Massachusetts, Feb, 28, 1748. He married Keziah Clapp, born in Walpole, May 12, 1752, died Sept, 1, 1819, daughter of Seth and Mary (Bullard) Clapp. They resided in Walpole for a few years after their marriage, but removed about 1775 to Holden, Massachusetts, where they thereafter resided. He was in the Revolutionary service from that town ^[1]Massachusetts Archives. He died in Holden, Mar 29, 1838, and his will was proved Jun 20, following. In it he mentions his children, Nancy Hubbard, Lucy Warner, Lewis, Ellis, Jesse and Seth Partridge, and five children of his deceased daughter Charlotte, wife of Asa Smith ^[2]Worcester Co. Prob., case 45558. He died 29 Mar 1838 and was buried at the Old Burying Ground in Holden along with his wife. The two oldest children were bom in Walpole, the others in Holden.

3. Lucy Partridge, born May 21, 1776; married (1) Nov 7, 1793, Elnathan Davis of Holden, who died Dec 30, 1804, aged 43; married (2) May 1, 1806, Thomas Wilder Warner of Rutland, Massachusetts. Six children by first husband; four by second husband.
4. Lewis Partridge, born Dec 2, 1778; died May 5, 1849; married Rebecca Maynard; resided in Rutland, Massachusetts, afterwards in Holden, where he died. Children:
   1. Lucy Partridge, 6 born Jan 23, 1810.
   2. Lewis Partridge, born Mar 11, 1812; died young.
5. Ellis Partridge, born Sep 14, 1781; resided in Holden; married Joanna _______. Children, born in Holden:
   1. Charles Billings Partridge, 6 born May 6, 1808.
   2. Edward Emerson Partridge, born Jun 1, 1810; resided in Athol, Massachusetts. Two children.
   3. Horace Green Partridge, born Sep 26, 1812.
   4. Silas Witt Partridge, born Dec 3, 1816; resided in Leicester, Massachusetts. Six children.
   5. Julia Ann Partridge, died in infancy.

Jesse Partridge, born Feb 25, 1784; died in Princeton, Massachusetts, 1 Oct 1852, buried at West Cemetery in Princeton; resided in Rutland, Sterling and Princeton, Massachusetts; married Lydia Maynard. Children, the three oldest born in Rutland, and burned at Sterling, in a fire which destroyed their father’s house:

   3. Warren Clapp Partridge, born Dec, 3, 1811; died young.
   4. Roxanna Partridge, born in 1813; died 17 Dec 1875, buried at West Cemetery in Princeton; married William Wilson, 08 May 1834. Six children.

   6. Daniel W. Partridge, born in 1823/1824; married Elizabeth Davis Stow, daughter of Freeman and Persis (Wilson) Stow on 01 Sep 1846 in Princeton. Children:
      1. Walter Eugene Partridge, born 02 Apr 1847; died 08 Jul 1871, buried at Hope Cemetery in Princeton.
      2. Ida Nerissa Partridge, born 18 Nov 1848.
      3. Lyman Franklin Partridge, born 13 Apr 1850; died 08 Oct 1940, buried at Hope Cemetery in Princeton; married Mary R. Wellington daughter of Clark and Nancy B. (Francis) Wellington. Five children.

      5. Daniel Warren Partridge Jr., born in 1854; died 22 Jul 1864, buried at Hope Cemetery in Princeton.
      6. Levi Lincoln Partridge, born 28 Aug 1856; died 27 Jan 1933, Worcester, Massachusetts, buried at Hope Cemetery in Princeton; married Mary Jane Hillery 04 Dec 1875 in Princeton.
      7. Frank E. Partridge, born in 06 Oct 1860; died 04 Jul 1926, buried at Hope Cemetery in Princeton.

Elisha Gale Partridge, born in Feb 1826; died Sunday morning, 14 Oct 1900 while visiting his son in St. Paul, Minnesota, buried 15 Oct 1900 at Warrens Cemetery in Roberts, Wisconsin; married Abbie W. Bacon, she was born in Jun 1831 and died 12 May 1911 in Zillah, Washington, she was buried at Warrens Cemetery in Roberts. Elisha served in Co. B, 3rd Minn. Inf. as a private from 28 Dec 1863-10 May 1865 as a private. Three children at death survived him.
   8. Lyman F. Partridge, born 15 Apr 1828; died 30 Nov 1904; married Martha E. Russell on 1 Jul 1868 in Rockingham, Vermont, daughter of Silas and Susan Russell. Served in Co. G, 36th Regt. Mass. Vol. Militia. Filed for pension on 26 Nov 1866 ^[3]Application #119326 and Certificate #85685 and his widow on 5 Dec 1904; both in New Hampshire. ^[4]Application #817974 and Certificate #600488.
      
      Two small children Bessie, a girl 4 years, and Flora, aged 7 years, daughters of Lyman F. Partridge of this village, were drowned last Monday in a pool in the brook running through Brook Hollow at the north end of the village. The mother gave them permission to go for wild flowers in that locality but cautioned them to keep away from the brook. They left their home about 1 o’clock P.M., and at half past 2 o’clock the mother became alarmed at their protracted absence and sought them, and found their lifeless bodies in about two feet depth of water. A physician was called at once and every effort made to restore them to life without success. Brief funeral services in the Unitarian church at 2 P.M., on Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Thomas D. Howard, and the bodies were deposited in one grave in the village cemetery. The sympathies of the whole community go out to the bereaved family.

   11. Myron W. Partridge, born in May 1869; died 05 Sep 1876, buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Charlestown, New Hampshire.
   12. Florence L. Partridge, born in 1878; drowned 13 Jun 1885 in Charlestown, New Hampshire; buried 14 Jun 1885 at Forest Hill Cemetery, Charlestown.
